A classic John Hacker 6.5m mahogany “Gentleman’s Racer” powered by a modified 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine, built in Whangarei by Peter Wallis (a retired boat builder/marine engineer.) It was a 3 year project using plans from pre-WWII era that were easily adapted to a more up to date construction method. For example, double diagonal epoxied over frames and stringers with fore and aft mahogany planking.
Launched in 2014, she has exceeded design top speed of 35 knots (65 Km/h), with more power left to explore.
Boating NZ did a 7 page feature article about the build, May 2015 edition, entitled “Thursday Dreaming”, the English translation of Giovedi Sognare. Why Thursday Dreaming? Peter got sick of being asked during the construction – when are you going to launch it – so he always answered Thursday.
